Life as a Lytro Intern

Less than a hundred days after the first Lytro camera was shipped, I began my marketing summer internship.  I knew the company was growing fast, the product was sexy, and the media was definitely taking notice.  I also knew that I loved photography, was attracted by new technology, and wanted to work at a small(ish) company back in sunny California. After begging for many months that they should let me work for them, I found my seat at their shiny new Mountain View office with a completely open floor plan full of camera gear that would make any photographer drool a little. All of this, combined with a stocked kitchen, a full kegerator, and a frequently-used ping-pong table gave me confidence that I was going to have a great summer.

Along with my online acquisition and social media projects, I had a couple unexpected to-do’s I can now file under the skills section of my resume.  I put together legos, taste-tested lollipops, spray painted a brown box black, tracked down fruit pies, re-assembled broken manikins, and planned a pub crawl.  And this doesn’t even account for the rigorous training hours I put in on the ping-pong table and the countless living pictures I ended up taking.

I am now in my last week here at Lytro and am sad to go, but looking forward to spending my last weekend in New York showing off the Lytro Camera and creating refocusable memories at FringeNYC.  If you’re in New York, sign up for our upcoming photowalks!

P.S. Lytro is hiring now, so act fast to be an insider in this picture revolution.
