It’s Here! See Your Pictures with Perspective Shift and Living Filters

The wait is over. The Perspective Shift and Living Filters update is now available for camera owners. After updating the Lytro Desktop Software, they will be able to share their own living pictures with Perspective Shift and Living Filters. When those pictures are shared, whether on Facebook, Twitter or via email, everyone can play with Perspective Shift and Living Filters, no special software needed.

We work with some amazing photographers who have had an advance opportunity to use these new features. Check out this video interview with Lytro Pro Shooter Trey Ratcliff, who runs the leading travel photography website, Stuck in Customs:

One cool thing to do for the perspective view: instead of mouse drag, use eye/head tracking with a webcam. it doesn’t need to be too accurate, and the wow factor will be greatly amplified.

I was really disappointed with that shut down of the 32 bit software so very soon after the initial Lytro production. Pondered a long time as to purchasing the Lytro. Knew the power of my old time first pentium chip mac was a concern. I was ranting that just some six months down the production road it was out of the picture.

Anyway ….. it is a fun camera to use and experiment with. I have decided to keep it.

My six and a half year old iMac works great but really needs to be updated.
With the introduction of the newer 2013 iMac the first of the year I will have that purchase option or buy one of the “old” 2012 models.

Did you see that Lytro is not supporting the early macs (32 bit intel processor) now? We have a very expensive crippled camera now. I also own one of the early macs. Hope yours is a 64 bit processor as all new software needs 64 bit. What a waste of time for me. Do you think it is worth it to hold on to the camera until I update to a new computer? Do you like it or just meh with it. Thanks for your input. Just thought I would let you know what I found out.

Yes .. you missed one thing. How about a refund on my $399 camera and $100 in accessories mistake

We’ve found the problem, but I’m sorry to say I have some bad news for you.

In a nutshell: your computer truly is unable to run Lytro Desktop 2.0.0, which is a 64-bit application (more powerful), but requires a 64-bit processor (while your Intel Core Duo CPU is instead a 32-bit processor).

There was a mistake on our end in not seeing this coming; your generation of computer happens to be the only one that meets our original OS X system requirements (10.6.6+) that *doesn’t* have a 64-bit processor.

So, here’s what we’re going to do to take care of you as best as we can; hopefully this will give you some time to modernize your computer equipment:

*) We will continue to support Lytro Desktop 1.1.6 in the field until mid-2013.

*) You can re-download Lytro Desktop 1.1.6 until mid-2013. (If you’ve already installed Lytro Desktop 2.0.0, drag it to the Trash and reboot your computer first before re-downloading).

*) Going forward, you will need to refuse all prompts to update the Lytro Desktop software. We sincerely apologize for this additional inconvenience.

*) If you accidentally update your Lytro Desktop software to 2.0.0 in the future, delete it and re-download.

We know you may have quite a few additional questions about all this, and we’ve written up everything we can think of here:

Please let me know if there’s anything we missed.

Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused!

So …………… I’m not the only one having problems. My mac suddenly is not supported also

  • michelhb

I updated the Lytro desktop on my macbook and now it tells me it won’t run on my Mac because it’s not supported. WTF!!! It is a 2006 Macbook running Snow leopard.

That is great news…. can’t wait to try the new firmware!
